What an absolutely HUGE piece of news! I feel so proud to be a Bristol graduate having heard this piece of news. I contracted bacterial meningitis during my first term of Bristol University when I was a student of Goldney Hall and this is an incredible moment for me to say that the university has taken the decision to vaccinate its students that live in halls FOR FREE.

It is so SO important that the government responds to this now and gets that vaccine in ASAP. Yesterday surpassed the 1000th sufferer of meningitis B since the vaccine was licensed in January 2013. Time lost is lives lost! You can see my direct message to the government on ITV news here.

I'm now a very proud Bristol graduate! Of coruse there's a small part of me that thinks 'what if I was younger and at uni now, would I have been protcted against meningitis? Would my life be different?' Yet the fact is that somehow this makes it seem that something good has come out of my experience, and everyone else who has suffered from meningitis. I am aware that a handful of students have contracted viral meningitis at Bristol in the past and perhaps the univeristy's experience of meningitis has informed part of their decision to help prevent meningitis from destroying the lives of their future students. After all, what good is a life-saving vaccine if it is not being used to save lives?

Well done, Bristol!
