It is always a privilage to be asked to participate in events on behalf of Meningitis Now, and to be able to promote such vital work. Last week I collected an incredibly kind donation from Sara and Tim from the Researcher Forum for Meningitis Now. Sara has had a personal experience of meningitis with her little boy contracting it at only a few weeks old. I was very inspired by her dedication to caring for her little boy, fundraising for Meningitis Now, as well as working. Truly a superwoman!

It is always fantastic to meet people who understand the severity of meningitis, and who are passionate about raising awareness and funds to further research. I'd also been ill so had been having a (small, I promise!) break from training- so attending this event helped me focus on my end goal- to raise £1,800 for Meningitis Now, and as much awareness as possible for running the London Marathon. I'd also like to personally thank Tim for his marathon tips, as well as making me feel really welcome!

This was truly a 'meningitis week'- firstly a tragic story about a student from Manchester University who died of meningitis. I can't get over the fact that people are dying from this and still the government has not introduced the vaccine.

Secondly, the parliament meningitis event, which went really well. You can read up on it here, including what the Prime Minister had to say. Again, too much time wasting if you ask me!

Here's a reminder of how many cases there have been of meningitis B since the vaccine was licensed....
